11:29 am - Relocating
|
After more than 10 years on Livejournal, I feel it's time for some change...
I haven't been using this place as steadily as I did before and the things I tend to blog about are less personal and more of the mundane variety... so while I'll be still checking out my contacts here from time to time, I'll be writing HERE from now on.

3:07 pm - Wooohoo!
|
In the midst of unfulfillment spawned by going back to work without having spent a single day of proper "holiday" (going back to Bergamo didn't really count and new year's eve was a subdued affair), I nevertheless have managed to produce a small nugget of glittery material.
I finally updated my website.
It doesn't sound much, but for me (last time I coded anything was LAST CENTURY!) it meant getting to grips with Dreamweaver, editing and selecting work from over a terabyte of assorted crap and more importantly, finishing it before other more important tasks got hold of me.

Forgot the personal pics, but still had these in my drive! ^_^
Made a couple of weeks ago, with lovely model Dorothy Shaw and talented corset-maker (and fellow nerd) Alige Corsetry.

5:31 pm - Aaaaaaachooo!
|
Still got a huge cold... between the coughing fits, the nose blowing and the randomized (and very loud!) sneezing, I really haven't been living well... I already have all my winter duvet/blankets on and still manage to be cold at nights: the lack of rug and the balcony window don't help much either.
New house update: well, there isn't much to say. I managed to arrange properly both the kitchen and the bathroom, so at least I can eat and take a piss leisurely. Bedroom is still entrenched with Ikea bags filled with clothing: I've got so much I want to give away/sell cheap but I can't be bothered to take pictures and post them... too bad there aren't places to have a garage sale here in Milan, as I'm reduced to inviting friends/acquaintances over and have them rummage around my stuff in order to pick and mix what they want -don't get me wrong, I love having people over but fuuuuck, it's such a slow process!
Now that the main elements of living are set, I've also begun to sloooowly decorate. I've decided to keep most of my framed pictures and old decor in the main room (sleep/living), so I now have a duplicate of my old lair. Bathroom and kitchen are on hold as kind Amazon won't ship the items I want to Italy so I'll have to wait till I go to London to get them from friends. This leaves the corridor: as it features my dvd/videogames/action figures on shelves I decided early on that it was going to get modded in an old school pixel style... as it's a narrow space with little light and the last tenant left me a nice silver-framed mirror, I opted for a silver-on-white rather than black-on-white or the insane dayglo colour-on-white that I conjured up late one night (brrr, what whas I thinking?). So the first piece of the puzzle is coming soon in the mail: this in silver/red colourway and will stand over kitchen and bathroom doors. If you don't hear from me in the following days, I've probably fallen and cracked my head trying to put it up. The invaders, however, will have to wait until I figure out how much else I can cover and if the damn thing sticks properly on the wall. Sadly, I haven't had much luck finding wall decors of my two favourite oldschool past times, so I'll be cutting tetris blocks and pacman ghosts all day long as soon as I find a decent matte silver pvc sheet.
Finally, to keep this post image-interesting, here's another one from the QClub shoot with Dolly... I'm out of my "everything's sleek" phase and back to my "let's age everything", must be the change of season.

3:03 pm - Weekend log
|
Apart from getting my sorry ass rained on YET AGAIN, the weekend went surprisingly well... had a very productive shoot on saturday with two girls, one I already shot three times the other a first timer. We got off at a rickety start as we had one hour and a half of waiting on the curb of a super-dodgy area (the club we were using as a location was closed and the guy who was supposed to open the doors for us didn't show up!). To top it off, we soon found out that the place was in a sorry state, with filth everywhere and the lingering smell of vomit... I can name squats with a better hygiene, damn it. Thankfully I was working with lovely people who didn't flinch about the conditions, kept a straight face and literally popped out of the picture just standing there... These are the two first shots, hopefully Ill manage to edit some more before the insane house-moving experience (TM) that is looming on me:
Janet, the circus queen

Dolly, the femme fatale

12:13 pm - Moving - first box
|
Yesterday was the first day of autumn so I thought it would be fitting to start boxing up my stuff... at 11pm no less, just a little fuck you to the old lady down stairs who irks me to no end with her off-key singing. Two boxes of books and one of comics. I know it's only a tiny notch on my mountain of consumer goods and assorted knick-knacks still leering at me from every corner, but just having the things in my room is symbolical enough for me. Everytime I look at them I have a shit just got real moment. Also, rummaging around my bookcase I found 100 bucks, remainders of my trip to the USA I guess. Hopefully I'll find more money stashed around, though I don't count much on it!

6:55 pm - Geek shopping
|
Well, I've been a good girl and spent basically nothing on clothing and such for a long time (due to the dreaded "I'm moving, gotta stay light!" syndrome) but I couldn't resist some cheap ass nerdy jewelry.
I'll be able to kern with my fingers. Sweet! ^_^
( the rest of the shopping over here )

3:02 pm - Cross stitch for the nerd
|

I did another one. What can I say: I was going to work last night and the keyboard's batteries went dead on me. Soooo... well, I had to watch cartoons and cross stitch! :-P
Dead pacman and ghosts were modified from a pattern found on the excellent Sprite stitch blog, while the lettering was made from scratch... I know the magenta ghost isn't accurate (there's either a pink or a red one) but I wanted a CYMK colourscheme ;-)

10:11 am - summer's over. Hell yeah!
|
Sorry for those crying over the loss of mosquitos, closed shops and 40°C in the shade heat...but when I peeked outside the window and saw the gentle rain, gray sky and the perfect temperature for cuddling inside an oversized sweatshirt I did a little dance. :-)
Some final thoughts about summer... I had high expectations, as usual, but the heat and lack of drive basically turned it into this:

I'm not complaining, mind you. I'm just glad it's over and that my favourite one is beginning. :-D

10:55 am - It's too damn bright in here
|
Today is the classic day where people go postal... not because it's shitty, quite the opposite: it's so nice outside that staying indoors is raking people's nerves way worse than a rainy day could. A clear blue day, a sunny one, but not a hot mushy hell as the last couple of days: there's a strong wind blowing, so powerful that one of my office's hi-tech exterior curtains has been almost torn apart and now hangs limply, out of synch with the rest of them -they're programmed to go up and down when the light is too bright, usually with disastrous results. It's strange how architects and decorators try so hard to automatize basic stuff such as curtains and light, when at the end of the day this means no one is happy with how the damn place is lit up. For instance, my all white office is so bright that on sunny days we poor haunters of dark lairs and basements have to shield our highly reflective screens (*) with a variety of ghetto methods -thus ruining the stylish effect mr who-cares-I-won't-be-living-here Thun had in mind when he designed this place, I might add.
And just to make this a meaningful post, here's another pic from the day with Agnieszka. I was itching to use my spiky bling bling in a photo for ages :-D

(*) thank you, Apple, for the shiny finish of your new computers, you won't have money coming from me until you bring back normal screens, as I already have a nice mirror hanging from the wall. Looking at my scrunched up, un-made-up face reflected on the file I'm trying to edit is FUCKING HELL.

11:43 am - Vacation recap

1:32 am - Randomly, an update
|
Almost two months of lj blackout... woah... it's gotten to the point that I stumble here only when I'm on vacation or at my parents' house as I can't seem to find the time to properly write down anything. As a matter of fact, both the above mentioned cases are true so it stands to reason that I'm updating Lj instead of dicking around. ;-)
It's actually pleasant to return to a more verbose prose than the 140 meager letters that Twitter forces on you, but considering that most days I have barely the time to compose a haiku commiserating corporate slavery, it doesn't take rocket science to figure out why I haven't been updating much. Well, that and the fact that life has been mostly a rinse and repeat job for me.... nothing much happening as I'm preparing for the move: I'm content of spending what little free time I have daydreaming of moronic, everyday things like a decent shower curtain or finally owning a doormat.
Being sent to work in Parma for weeks without an internet connection also didn't do much for my online presence -though it worked wonders on my eyesight as I realised how much time I spend glued to the computer while working. On a positive side, it also gave me a chance to spend some quality time with friends there, which was also a nice change to my usual routine ^_^ On a negative one, it meant that I had to shift through something like 400 emails today. Ewww...

2:26 pm - Some changes coming up
|
Well, it had to happen sooner or later... starting the first of october, I'll be moving to my own apartment. It's tiny, just a bedroom/kitchen/bathroom thing, but it will be ALL MINE (or rather, till I stop paying rent that it). :-D Ironically enough, I signed the contract and shortly after my dad called (I think the last time he did was like three months ago) asking what I was up to. The satisfaction of breaking the news and telling him that I'll be dealing with the expenses (got to buy most of the furniture, the most important part being the kichen) on my own without support was enough to make my day...
Next difficult task: telling my housemate that in three months I'll scram! ;-D

4:01 pm - Zzzzzz
|
Not really much going on. Spent every single night this week burning my braincells in the office. Today there's a happy hour scheduled on the roof of the agency's building... It looks like one drink per head affair, the grand old times of binge drinking at the open bar are gone. In any case I won't get much time for clowning around as I got drafted as the photographer. Clever idea... very thrifty too, considering I don't get paid overtime in any case. They actually end up saving as I can't drink and take pics at the same time. Pah!
Last night I couldn't sleep for the heat... I ended up splitting my wandering attention between stupid tv series, horrible country videos (I swear, who directs these things, the look like America's funniest home videos!) and easy editing of the weekend's headshots. For once, I didn't have to comp in strange stuff or redo badly applied makeup from scratch...

In other news, I still have problems with the damn rash on my stomach... considering my dad's worked as a dermatologist, I could probably snap a picture and send it to him for a quicky diagnosys (hey, if I can manage to compare the damn thing to medical plates online so can he) but I guess I have better chance of scaring the rash away with sarcastic remarks than getting valid help from him. So I went to the pharmacist this morning and got suckered into buying Bepanthenol -the only time I ever saw someone use it or used it myself was on tattoos, I'm rather sad that I'm buying it for it's original purpose, hopefully I'll finish the tube with the kitty tattooes!

6:43 pm - Weekend log
|
Spent it snapping away of course... gotta rake in the money! :-P Saturday was just a regular portrait/compshot for a girl who wants to get into acting... simple and fun, but I sadly realised that my room is getting too hot to shoot in: I won't be able to take indoor projects as makeup will get fucked in no time (plus, I hate the heat)! :-/
Sunday however was a whole different matter, it was still hot as hell, but at least I got out of the bedroom of doom. I had a band shot scheduled and poor guys, they were in for a treat: being young and pliable, I managed to convince them to pose in matching oldschool pajamas in an abandoned factory's kitchen. I want to do more stupid band shots like this one, damnit, the result is much more fun than the usual "four guys arranged in a row trying to look their coolest" (yeah, we did those too as a backup).
Also, it was the second time I went to the place, but the first time I didn't realise it was so huge! I brought a friend as a factotum/explorer/baddy deterrent and I'm really happy I asked him to tag along as during his roaming he brought back the floorplans to the whole place -and the keys! And cellphone pics of places where apparently no one has ever been! ^_^
We're now planning an industrial picnic plus superduper Silent Hill cosplay shot in the factory's creepy infirmary (with a single empty bed complete with destroyed bedding and where all the blinds look like they exploded outward as if something escaped) and adiacent showers (where the piping has bled and rusted like they were filled with blood), weee! :-D

4:56 pm - Not dead yet

But I must admit I'm spreading myself a bit too thin... too much stuff to do, so little time left after work to do anything else than sleep. So enjoy some more T-800 action, while I try not to explode. :-P

6:29 pm - Ok, so I caved in...
|
...and got a Facebook account. It happened after a looooong boring day spent buried in Parma, doing a cook casting(*): devoid of teh interwebz for a whole day, I jumped with joy when I discovered that the computer I usually leech onto at home was on. But I quickly dispensed with all personal mails and stuff, the connection was so slow I couldn't watch some online show (I'm hooked on reviews these days, mostly nerdy stuff, but I'd sit through a review of toilet paper types or water hoses if the talker is interesting enough)... soooo, boredom and a friend pointing out that one of her photos was being used by some bdsm slut on the site finally got me to sign up.
Two days later, the main impression is that it's a gigantic waste of time. A shitload of people kept telling me signing in would bring more contacts for photos and such. So far (and I know it's just two days but hey, I'm writing about it now so I can compare how it developes in the future) not counting friends and aquaintances, I had roughly 75% photographers contacting me and 25% prospecting customers. Useful? I dunno. Probably not, unless I want to sell my equipment cheap. Oh, and I got yet another offer for doing an Alice in Wonderland type of shot (for free, of course)... if I get asked another time I'll go insane.
I've also gone hunting for friends (like everyone there I suppose... though I'm not crossing the school buddies and exes line). Finding super old pics of me in other profiles is even worse as I find it difficult to relate to some and sad that I don't look like that anymore in other cases... I really miss my dreads, in example.
In keeping with grumbling about the past, looking for her facebook account I've stumbled on my sister's blog (HA! Gotcha!). It's a funny comparison with mine as despite being younger than me, she comes off at least ten years older -or rather, I sound like a nerdy gen-X poser constantly focused on the latest gadget or movie, she's posting haikus, serene landscapes and quiet musings. WTF? :-P
I'm envying her pictures of our cats though... shitty and unartistic they may be (though miss, if you're reading this, the nature ones are brilliant!), but at least she has time to take them whenever she wants:

Awwwwwww! Though these days they are at war and cannot be trusted to be in the same room without a fight, it was pretty common when I still lived there to find both of them napping together on my mother's bed.
(*) basically we had to watch a number of top notch chefs prepare the same recipe while they got filmed. It was really facinating to watch these guys work: everyone did things differently and added their own little twists to the mix, but it was also the same damn recipe over and over and over. I have to watch the damn videos tomorrow and as sure as hell I won't be glued to my seat with interest... but hey, now I know how to make a wonderful vegetarian ragu pasta. I just need a proper kitchen to cook it in (and to stop craving for tasty meat) :-P

1:19 pm - Randomness... or rather, random grumpiness
|
- Looking for a new home is taking up most of my spare time. I'd be better off splitting the rent with someone like I'm doing now, as I would be able to get twice the space at a third of the price, but wanting to be in my own place for a change means I find only cramped hellholes or flats that are way over my budget. Renting in Milano sucks. Not being able to buy sucks even more.
- Pet peeve of the day: dear girl who wants to take pics with me, if I write telling you I *don't* want to receive phonecalls while I'm at work (because I'm working, duh!), don't send me an email telling me you are calling me in anycase and then proceed to do so even before the damn thing arrives. It will lead to me saying "I told you not to call me at work, try in the evening" followed by a CLICK and an immediate reassesment of my will to work with you.
- Have a laugh at me pontificating on what I do here at Seven by five's profiles.
- I need a vacation and the bro sent me the link to the European 8bit Blip festival... excellent! Only snag is, he's already booked a vacation on the opposite part of Europe for the same period, so I'm lost on who I could go with as 99% of the people I know loathe 8bit with a vengeance :-(
